The Student Companies of the Conservatory of Flamenco Arts (CFA) exemplify the school’s comprehensive and musically-driven approach to instruction. The Student Companies focus on flamenco and Spanish dance training while prioritizing the experience of performing and executing works of influential choreographers in the field. Student Company dancers (ages 8-18) must have completed a certain number of years and/or specific level of training depending on level of Student Company and are selected by audition each Fall. Auditions are non-competitive. Dancers are required to participate in two weekly classes and attend two weekly Student Company rehearsals from September to June. The year culminates in two public performances. Student dancers must also participate in community performances. Please consider joining us!
Student Company Audition Date & Schedule: Saturday, August 24, 2019
3:30-4:30pm Student Company I, Teeños Flamencos (4:15pm Pre-Audition Registration)
4:30-5:30pm Student Company II, Niños Flamencos (5:15pm Pre-Audition Registration)
Each audition is one-hour long. Dancers should expect to stay for the entire audition. Dancers auditioning for Student Company I need to prepare a 2-minute dance solo. Dancers should wear appropriate dance class/rehearsal clothing.
STUDENT COMPANY I, Teeños Flamencos:
Students must be a minimum of 13 years old and have at least 5 years of flamenco dance training.
Required Rehearsals and Classes:
1. Student Company I Rehearsals: Thursdays 5:00-6:00pm with Yjastros company members, Kayla Lyall and Carlos Menchaca
2. Student Company I Rehearsals: Saturdays 12:00-1:00pm with Yjastros company members, Kayla Lyall and Carlos Menchaca
3. Flamenco Training Program of appropriate level, minimum of two classes weekly.
STUDENT COMPANY II, Niños Flamencos:
Students must be a minimum of 8 years old and have at least 3 years of flamenco dance training.
Required Rehearsals and Classes:
1. Student Company II Rehearsals: Wednesdays 6:00-7:00pm with Yjastros company member, Claudia Pizarro
2. Student Company II Rehearsals: Saturdays 12:00-1:00pm with Eva Encinias and Yjastros company member, Claudia Pizarro
3. Children’s Flamenco Foundations or Flamenco Training Program of appropriate level, minimum of two classes weekly.
