Out of Many, One

Five original flamenco works. One resonant evening.

Out of Many, One is an evening of five original flamenco works, each representing a distinct process of individuals connecting to a whole: Convergence, Momentum, Inheritance, Embodiment, and Reconciliation. In Elementos, choreographed by Adrian Santana, earth, air, fire, and water converge as interdependent elements. In Sara Cano’s Camina, momentum unifies energy into forward motion. Inheritance links the individual to culture and tradition in Ricardo Moro’s Marianas. Embodiment integrates memory, emotion, and identity in an untitled solo work by Adrian Santana, and in Ana Morales' Taranterias, reconciliation bridges opposing forces. Out of Many, One celebrates unique voices, bodies, and perspectives, bringing them together into a single, resonant experience.

The Five Works

  • CONVERGENCE: Earth, air, fire, and water converge as interdependent elements.

Inspired by the coastal landscape of Málaga, Elementos draws on earth, air, fire, and water to shape both movement and design. Barefoot dancing, driving percussion, and the use of mantón, castanets, and bata de cola create a dynamic interplay between contemporary and traditional flamenco. The work emphasizes connection—among dancers, music, and the elemental forces that bring them together.

  • MOMENTUM: Momentum unifies energy into forward motion.

Set in the rhythm of malagueñas, Camina places twelve dancers in continuous motion, using the act of walking as a metaphor for perseverance and growth. The choreography builds momentum through layered footwork and shifting formations that keep the ensemble moving forward. Camina reflects the resilience required to continue, even through uncertainty.

  • INHERITANCE: Inheritance links the individual to culture and tradition.

Built around the lesser-known palo Marianas, this work explores a quieter, more introspective side of flamenco. Measured pacing and expressive restraint allow space for reflection on lineage, memory, and emotional depth. Marianas invites audiences inward, honoring the traditions that continue to shape the form.

  • EMBODIMENT: Memory, emotion, and identity take form in a solo work.

A departure from the evening’s ensemble works, this solo work centers the direct exchange between dancer, musician, and audience. Adrián Santana steps into the traditional structure of solo performance to reveal the body as both instrument and archive, shaped by discipline, memory, and lived experience. foregrounds presence and individuality within the collective arc.

  • RECONCILIATION: Reconciliation bridges opposing forces.

Taranterías moves between two contrasting flamenco forms—taranta and bulería—to examine the pull between order and unpredictability. The opening section unfolds with clarity and control, while the latter accelerates into layered rhythms and kinetic ensemble work. Together, they reflect the ongoing search for balance amid life’s shifting forces.
